The use of hierarchy in a modeling environment is critical for effective simulation of real world objects. For models involving a combination of several moving parts, hierarchy is necessary to establish the network of dependent relationships governing the movements of the parts and the model as a whole. HME (the Hierarchical Modeling Environment) is a 3D computer graphics system designed to give the user complete access to the total hierarchical model.
HME allows the user to dynamically build, manipulate, and display hierarchical 3D objects. The program also includes created polygons in the hierarchy. The window-oriented user interface allows the manipulation of objects using the mouse, windows, menus, buttons, and sliders. A hierarchy window pictorially depicts the model environment's hierarchy. The user can point at any node on the hierarchy and use a powerful set of standard options to edit, copy, create, or save that portion of the hierarchical environment. With HME it is easy to establish and edit the proper coordination of eye points, light sources, and model connectivity neccessary for accurate model depiction.
HME carries the NASA case number MSC-21708. It was originally released as part of the NASA COSMIC collection.
